Ambassador Liu Zhenmin Met with WHO Director-General Margaret Chan

    On 1 March 2012, Ambassador Liu Zhenmin, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Dr. Margaret Chan, the Director-General of the World Health Organization.

    Ambassador Liu said, under the leadership of Director-General Margaret Chan, the WHO is committed to strengthening the international health cooperation, positively responds to emerging global health challenges and has made great contribution to the realization of the MDGs. The Chinese Government attaches great importance to health development, and integrates public health as an important part of the 12th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development. The Chinese Government will continue to positively participate in the international health cooperation,support the work of the WHO and its Director-General and make new contribution to the global public health development.

    Director-General Margaret Chan welcomed Ambassador Liu to assume his new post in Geneva and expressed appreciations of China's long-term support to the WHO and herself. She highlighted the great achievements of China’s health development and hoped the cooperation between China and the WHO will be further strengthened.

    Ambassador Liu and Dr. Chan also exchanged views on the WHO reform, WHA and future cooperation between China and the WHO.
