On April 1, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné jointly met the press after their talks in Beijing.

Wang Yi said, China and France are both major countries with an independent spirit. The historical wealth of the friendship between the two countries is worth cherishing and their shared responsibility and mission is incumbent upon them. China and France agreed to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity under the leadership of the two heads of state to strengthen communication and coordination, deepen exchanges and cooperation, make China-France relations more strategically stable and forward-looking, and play a leading role in the following four aspects:

First, lead international solidarity. The current international situation is complicated and intertwined, and the risk of division and confrontation is rising. As responsible major countries, China and France should work together to be the anchor and the glue of the world. The two sides will continue to maintain close communication on major international and regional issues, support each other's multilateral initiatives, and contribute their strength to uniting the international community and addressing global challenges.

Second, lead innovative development. The two sides will deepen cooperation in traditional areas such as aviation and aerospace, nuclear energy, agriculture and finance, and actively explore cooperation in emerging areas such as green transition and intelligent manufacturing. China is accelerating the development of new quality productive forces and continuously promoting high-quality development. China is willing to strengthen the synergy of development strategies and industries with France to tap new potential for cooperation.

Third, lead openness and win-win outcomes. Openness is the greatest opportunity, while seclusion is the greatest risk. China's opening up will not stop. China is willing to import more high-quality French products and services and make it more convenient for enterprises from various countries, including France, to develop in China. China also believes that France will provide a fair, just and predictable business environment for Chinese companies to invest in France.

Fourth, lead dialogue among civilizations. The China-France Year of Culture and Tourism activities are in full swing. The two sides agreed to provide more convenience for personnel exchanges between the two countries, deepen cooperation in science, education, sports, cultural heritage protection and other fields, and enhance people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
