On May 29, 2012, Vice President Xi Jinping met with Kenyan Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka in the Great Hall of the People. Musyoka is in Beijing to attend the first Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services.

Xi said that China-Kenya friendship has a long history and since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral ties have been developing smoothly. The two countries have established a high degree of mutual political trust with close high-level visits, mutual support on major issues concerning each other's core interests, and sound communication and consultation in international and regional affairs. Xi said fast growing trade and economic cooperation makes up an important part of China-Kenya relations. Two-way trade reached 2.43 billion U.S. dollars in 2011, increasing 33 percent from the previous year. Chinese companies had invested 250 million U.S. dollars in Kenya by the end of 2011. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries also have been developing well and the cooperation in education, tourism and other fields enjoys a sound momentum. Some 37,000 Chinese citizens visited Kenya in 2011. He said that China is satisfied with the fruitful development of China-Kenya relations.

Xi said the world situation is undergoing profound and complicated changes, the impact of the international financial crisis and the European debt crisis has emerged and developing countries are facing an increasing number of difficulties and challenges. China and Kenya share a greater need to expand cooperation to jointly cope with the difficulties and challenges brought about by the changing international situation and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries. He said the two countries should further improve political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and expand cultural exchanges. Xi called for the two sides to step up cooperation within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation so as to lift bilateral links and the China-Africa relations to new levels.

Musyoka said the Kenyan government cherishes the traditional friendship with China and thanks for China's long-term support and help to Kenya's economic development. He reiterated Kenya's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China on issues concerning China's major concerns and core interests. He said Kenya welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in the country and contribute to its economic development and bilateral friendly ties.

Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and other officials attended the meeting.
