On April 19, 2012, Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping met with visiting Russian press delegation.

Cheng said that China-Russia relations are in the best time of history. When President Hu Jintao successfully visited Russia in June last year, leaders of the two countries confirmed the plan of developing the bilateral relations over the next 10 years and decided building the all-round strategic cooperative partnership based on equality and mutual trust, mutual support, common prosperity and friendship from generation to generation. China expects to make joint efforts with Russia to continuously enhance the strategic and political mutual trust and firmly support each other to do our own things well, to maintain our own core interests, to grown stronger and to follow the development path chosen on our own; actively implement a series of strategic major cooperation projects and cement the convergence of tangible interests; continue to expand people-to-people exchanges and cooperation and deepen the understanding and friendship between the two peoples; further strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, safeguard common interests and promote greater balance of international power.

He noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit will be held in Beijing in June this year. This Summit will be of great significance to the future growth of the SCO. China will take the opportunity of hosting the Summit to further enhance the SCO's functions of maintaining regional security, promoting economic development and deepening good-neighborly friendship and bring the SCO's development to a higher level.
