On April 12, 2012, Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao visited Hungary and held consultations between the two Foreign Ministries with János Hóvári, Deputy State Secretary at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi also met with Song.

Song said that in recent years, China-Hungary relations have scored significant development with frequent high-level exchanges and fruitful pragmatic cooperation between the two countries. The traditional friendship has been full of new vitality. The stable development of bilateral relations can be attributed to the fact that both sides enjoy firm basis of political mutual trust and accommodate each other's major concerns. Both sides should seize the current opportunity to uplift China-Hungary friendly cooperative partnership to a new level.
The Hungarian side hailed the smooth development of China-Hungary relations, adding the political mutual trust has reached a high level. Hungary is committed to expanding exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China to promote the continuous development of bilateral relations. Hungary is also willing to play a positive role in further pushing forward cooperation between China and central and eastern European countries and promoting China-EU relations.
The Hungarian side introduced the current domestic economic situation and their views on the European economic development. Song pointed out that whether the European debt crisis can be handled properly concerns not only the overall development of Europe, but also the world economic trends and the prospects of China-EU trade and economic cooperation. The Chinese side supports the measures taken by Europe to solve the sovereign debt issues and believes that Europe has the ability to solve its own problems.

The two sides also exchanged views on China-Hungary high-level visits, the issue of Syria and other matters.
Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gao Jian and other officials attended the consultations and meetings.
