Chinese, Azerbaijani Presidents Exchange Congratulatory Messages to Mark 20th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties
2012/04/02

On April 2, 2012, Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

In his message, Hu said the friendship between both peoples has a long history. The China-Azerbaijan relations have witnessed sound and stable development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 20 years ago. China and Azerbaijan have maintained close exchanges of high-level visits, with ever increasing mutual political trust and remarkable cooperation in economy and trade, energy, transportation, communication and culture, which has brought substantial benefits to the two peoples, Hu said. The two countries have kept communication and coordination on major issues of common concern, and conducted sound cooperation on international and regional affairs, which efficiently safeguarded their common interests, he said.

China always attaches importance to developing long-term and stable relations of friendship and cooperation with Azerbaijan, he said, adding that China supports the Azerbaijani government's efforts to safeguard social stability, promote economic development and improve the livelihood of its people. China would like to take the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of the China-Azerbaijan diplomatic ties to further enhance mutual understanding and trust, advance pragmatic cooperation in all fields, and continuously promote bilateral ties to a new level, the Chinese president said.

Aliyev said in his message that developing ties with China is an important direction in Azerbaijan's foreign policy. Azerbaijan pays great attention to its relations with China, a major power in the world, and is willing to continuously expand cooperation on bilateral level and on international affairs, he said. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, the two countries have kept high-level political dialogue and achieved positive results in economy and trade as well as cultural and people-to-people cooperation, which has laid a sound foundation for advancing bilateral ties to higher levels, he said. Aliyev expressed his belief that friendly cooperation between the two countries will be closer and better benefit the two peoples.

On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi exchanged congratulatory messages with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammedyarov.
