On March 22, 2012, State Councilor Dai Bingguo, at request, held a telephone conversation with Thomas E. Donilon, National Security Advisor of the US President. The two sides exchanged in-depth opinions on China-US relations and the situation of the Korean Peninsula.
They agreed to make joint efforts to implement the important consensus reached between President Hu Jintao and President Barack Obama and the results of Vice President Xi Jinping's recent visit to the US and to push foward the bilateral relations on the track of building the cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit.
Dai stressed that the major progress made in the dialogue between the US and the DPRK not long ago is hard-won. Under current circumstances, related parties should take a long-term perspective, remain calm and exercise restraint, act prudently and maintain peace and stability on the Peninsula. This is consistent with the interests of all parties.
