Tunisian President Marzouki Meets with Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun

On February 29, 2012, Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki met with visiting Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun, exchanging views on furthering China-Tunisia friendly relations in the new situation.

Zhai conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes of Chinese President Hu Jintao for President Marzouki. He said that China supports the appeals of the Tunisian people for development and transformation and is pleased with Tunisia's political reconstruction and economic development being on a right track. China sincerely hopes that Tunisia can achieve stability. In the new situation, China is willing to further strengthen friendly exchanges with Tunisia at all levels, expand economic and trade cooperation, support Tunisia's economic development and carry out humanities exchanges so as to promote development of China-Tunisia friendly cooperative relations.

 Marzouki asked Zhai to convey his cordial greetings to President Hu Jintao. He introduced the current situation in Tunisia and thanked for China's support and assistance after Tunisia's regime change. He stressed that Tunisia attaches great importance to relations with China and is willing to work with China to promote the friendship between the two countries and their peoples.

Zhai arrived in Tunisia on February 28 for a visit. During the stay, he also met with President of the Tunisian Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar and held talks with Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Hedi Ben Abbes. The two sides mainly exchanged views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.
