Vice Premier Li Keqiang Meets with Indonesian Defense Minister

On February 21, 2012, Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro in Ziguangge Zhongnanhai.

Li said China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors that share broad common interests and both countries are emerging developing countries with vast territory and large population. He said since the heads of state of the two countries announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between both sides in 2005, the bilateral relations have entered a new stage of in-depth and sustained development.

Li pointed out that in recent years, the two countries have continuingly increased trade and investment and expanded cooperation in the areas of energy, infrastructure, science, technology and culture. Li said cooperation between the defense departments and militaries of the two countries has also seen remarkable growth. Li expressed willingness to strengthen political dialogues and communication regarding regional and international affairs on the basis of mutual respect and benefit. He said China is also ready to expand bilateral cooperation in defense, security and other areas in order to boost the development of the country's strategic partnership with Indonesia. He said China is ready to work with Indonesia and other parties to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world at large.

Purnomo said Sino-Indonesian relations enjoy a solid foundation and broad prospects. He expressed willingness to further deepen cooperation between the two countries in order to realize "win-win development."

Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun, Guan Youfei, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Office of the Defense Ministry and other officials attended the meeting.
