In the afternoon of November 22, 2011, Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping and Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Maisa Yazmuhammedova jointly attended the opening ceremony of the Turkmenistan National Handicrafts Exhibition in China National Museum and delivered speeches.
Cheng said that China-Turkmenistan relations have grown healthily and achieved fruitful results since the two countries established diplomatic ties nearly 20 years ago. President Berdymukhamedov will pay a state visit to China very soon. As a top priority of the bilateral relations this year and to be paid on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the bilateral ties, the visit has special significance. The Turkmenistan National Handicrafts Exhibition is kicked off before this important visit. It will not only build a sound atmosphere for President Berdymukhamedov’s visit but also become a major event of cultural exchanges between the two countries. It will significantly increase the mutual understanding and traditional friendship between the two peoples and consolidate the social foundation of China-Turkmenistan friendly and cooperative relations. China expects to work with Turkmenistan to constantly deepen the bilateral pragmatic cooperation and raise the bilateral relations to a higher level.
Yazmuhammedova noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to developing relations with China and regards China as a sincere friend and a reliable partner. Both countries are ancient civilizations and have cultivated glorious and distinctive cultures in the long course of history. Lately President Berdymukhamedov pointed out in an interview by the Chinese media that “Turkmenistan and China are friendly countries and both are committed to developing the mutually beneficial cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields.” The grand opening of the Turkmenistan National Handicrafts Exhibition in China National Museum fully demonstrates the high level of the bilateral relations and the great importance China attaches to developing the bilateral cultural cooperation. Turkmenistan hopes this exhibition helps increase the Chinese people’s understanding of the Turkmen culture and promote the development of bilateral friendly and cooperative relations.
After their speeches, Yazmuhammedova and Cheng cut the ribbon for the exhibition together with Curator of China National Museum Lv Zhangshen.
