Jia Qinglin Attends China-Germany Business Cooperation Forum in Berlin and Delivers Speech
2011/11/04

On November 3, 2011, Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee attended the China-Germany Business Cooperation Forum in Berlin and delivered a speech Joining Hands to Create A Promising Future of China-Germany Economic and Trade Cooperation. About 260 people from the business community of both countries attended the forum.

Jia said that the great German nation is rigorous and meticulous and advocates intellectual enquiries. Germany has a long history and splendid culture. On this land there emerged a large number of famous thinkers, musicians and scientists who had made outstanding contributions to the progress of human civilization. Over the years, Germany has maintained its status as one of the world's leading economies and kept its international influence on the rise. Greatly renowned worldwide and claiming a top-spot at the high-end in the global industrial chains, the German manufacturing industry has not only kept up to the world's advanced level but also possesses distinct edge in the newly-thriving manufacturing sector. Germany consistently concentrates on the development of the real economy, particularly puts the manufacturing industry on the core position. It is one of the reasons why the German economy can get well-steeled through the financial crisis in 2008 and take the lead in developed countries for quick recovery.

He said that China and Germany have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, deepened mutual understanding, developed economic and trade relations quickly and conducted fruitful cooperation on science and technology, education and culture since they established diplomatic ties in 1972. He believes that the strategic partnership between the two countries will be sure to forge ahead always along the correct tracks as long as both sides show mutual respects, treat each other equally and take care of the other's core interests from a strategic and long-term perspective.

He pointed out that the bilateral economic and trade cooperation has been the locomotive and stabilizer for China-Germany relations. China and Germany are important trade and investment partners of each other. The bilateral economic and trade cooperation leads the China-EU economic and trade cooperation in terms of both width and depth. China is one of the top choices of German companies to invest abroad and also one of the most important export markets of German machinery, automobile, chemicals and other pillar industries. Facts have proved that the sound development of China-Germany economic and trade cooperation brings tangible benefits to the two peoples.

He mentioned that China has achieved world-acclaimed development after more than 30 years of reform and opening up. But we also clearly understand that there are still many challenges ahead and the road forward is full of hardships. China is still a developing country and has a long way to go to fully realize modernization. According to the "12th Five-Year" Plan released earlier this year, to push forward the domestic economic and social growth in the next 5 years, China will focus on scientific development, accelerate the transformation of economic growth mode, speed up strategic readjustments of economic structure, promote the stable and relatively fast economic growth in the long run and social harmony and stability and lay the foundation with decisive significance for the building of a well-off society in 2020. China's development will focus more on expanding domestic demand, technological innovation, ecological environment protection and opening up.

He pointed out that this year is the beginning of the second decade of the new century. The international situation is undergoing complex and profound changes. Faced with new circumstances, we shoulder the heavy historical task of tiding over difficulties through cooperation. China's choice is to stand together with all the other countries including Germany to pursue win-win cooperation and achieve common development. China will adhere to the road of peaceful development. It is a strategic choice made by the Chinese people after arduous explorations in line with our own traditional culture and the trends of the times and a successful road fitting in China's own needs. China will continue to stick to the independent foreign policy of peace, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries and expand common interest. China will continue to pursue the defensive national defense policy. It will not pose military threat to any country. Even if China grows stronger in the future, it will never seek hegemony or engage in expansion.

He said that China-Germany economic and trade cooperation enjoys solid foundation, is highly complementary and has new development opportunities. The stable growth of Chinese economy creates vast space for the growth of bilateral economic and trade ties. He raised three proposals on deepening the bilateral pragmatic economic and trade cooperation: first, tap market potential and expand trade volume; second, promote two-way investment and strengthen business interactions; third, broaden cooperation areas and develop new highlights.

He noted that Germany is an important member of the EU and a major driving force for European integration. China attaches great importance to the relations with the EU and consistently supports European integration. We support the EU's efforts of handling the sovereign debt crisis and believe the European people have the wisdom and ability to overcome difficulties and maintain economic stability and growth. China will continue to take Europe as one of key overseas investment markets and also hopes Europe takes steps to facilitate China's investment there. China and the EU are both important forces for world peace and common development. China is willing to enhance mutual understanding with the EU and constantly deepen the pragmatic cooperation.

On the same day, Jia also met with staffs of the Chinese embassy in Germany, representatives of Chinese-funded organizations, Chinese students abroad and overseas Chinese as well as the delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs.

Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Qian Yunlu and Chinese Ambassador to Germany Wu Hongbo were present at the above-mentioned activities.
