From October 11 to 12, 2011, Poland which holds the rotating presidency of the EU held the EU ministerial preparatory meeting in Warsaw for the 2012 UN conference on sustainable development. Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong led a delegation to the meeting and delivered a speech elaborating China's views on the theme and objectives of the upcoming UN conference and the international cooperation on sustainable development.

More than 40 countries and international organizations, including the EU member states, Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, the United States, Canada and Japan sent delegations to the meeting.
