Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping and Turkmenistan's First Deputy Foreign Minister Hajiyev Hold the First Session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee and Consultations between the Two Foreign Ministries

On September 6, 2011, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping and Turkmenistan's First Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev held the first session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee and consultations between the two Foreign Ministries as chairs of the Chinese and Turkmen sides of the Subcommittee respectively in Beijing. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on high-level exchanges, security cooperation, pragmatic cooperation and other bilateral issues as well as international and regional issues of common concern and reached broad consensus.

The two sides spoke highly of the results of the development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations and agreed that under the personal attention and direct promotion of the leaders of the two countries, China-Turkmenistan relations have reached an unprecedented high level. The two sides will strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, strengthen mutual support, deepen security cooperation and expand pragmatic cooperation in various fields in the principle of mutual respect, equality, mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation. Both sides will also take the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations to a new level.

Both sides agreed that security cooperation is an important part of bilateral relations, China and Turkmenistan have broad common interests and wide prospects for cooperation in the security field. The two sides will further deepen communication and cooperation between national defense, law enforcement, security and other departments, enhance cooperation in combating the "three forces", drug trafficking and transnational organized crime to safeguard security and stability of the two countries and the region at large.

Both sides pledged to further enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, strengthen communication and coordination and promote the establishment of consultation mechanisms at various levels, so as to make a positive contribution to promoting the development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

Following the first session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee, Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng and First Deputy Foreign Minister Hajiyev signed the minutes of the first session of the Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee.
