2011/08/11

On August 11, 2011, Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with visiting Bolivian President Juan Evo Morales Ayma at the Great Hall of the People.

Wu first extended warm welcome to Morales who is on a visit to China and to attend the opening ceremony of the 2011 Summer Universiade. Wu hailed the positive progress of China-Bolivia relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties 26 years ago. He said both sides have always respected each other and treated each other as equals, citing enhanced political trust, economic complementarity, win-win economic cooperation and cultural exchanges, as well as close coordination in global and regional issues. "We are satisfied with the progress of the relationship," he added.

Wu said as a good friend of Bolivia, China is glad to see the remarkable achievements Bolivia has made in national development under the leadership of Morales. He called for joint efforts to boost cooperation between the two governments and to keep closer friendly exchanges between the NPC of China and the Bolivian parliament as well as the contacts between the Communist Party of China and Bolivia's Movement towards Socialism. He also suggested that both sides deepen pragmatic cooperation in trade and cultural areas, share experiences in governing the country and improving people's livelihoods so as to cement the foundation of public support for bilateral friendship and promote common development.

Speaking highly of China's great achievements in economic and social development and important role in boosting global economic recovery, Morales said Bolivia hopes to learn from China's experience, as well as enhance friendship and pragmatic cooperation with the country. He welcomed more Chinese enterprises to invest in Bolivia for win-win outcomes and the benefit of the two peoples.
