On November 11, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Seoul. The two heads of state exchanged in-depth views on advancing China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership as well as major international and regional issues of common concern and reached new consensus.
Hu hailed the great success of President Medvedev's recent visit to China, during which both sides reached important consensus on comprehensively deepening China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership. It also injected new impetus into bilateral ties, he added. The related agencies of the two governments are actively implementing a range of cooperation agreements reached by both sides, which the Chinese side is satisfied with.
Hu pointed out that China and Russia should hold grand activities to mark the 10th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia treaty of good neighborhood, friendship and cooperation, which is of great significance to carrying forward the concept of the Sino-Russian friendship from generation to generation, boosting their traditional friendship and expanding comprehensive strategic cooperation.
Medvedev said he was very glad to meet with Hu again. It is a fine tradition of the two countries to hold regular meetings between their heads of state and five meetings have been held between both sides since this year. He said his state visit to China in September has yielded important outcomes and is of great significance to pushing forward bilateral ties. Russia is ready to work with China to enhance bilateral strategic cooperative partnership. The Russian side also agreed to hold grand activities to mark the 10th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia treaty of good neighborhood, friendship and cooperation next year.
Hu said China is ready to work with Russia to push the G20 Seoul summit to reinforce the momentum in the world economy's recovery in a spirit of sharing mutual concerns in the same boat and mutual benefit, advance reform of the international financial system, push for the resolution of unbalanced growth in the South and North and work for comprehensive and balanced results of the Doha round of talks. As a strategic partner of cooperation, China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Russia within the framework of the G20 and advance the multilateral mechanism toward the direction of conforming to the common interests of emerging economies, including China and Russia, Hu said.
Medvedev agreed with Hu's proposals, saying that the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) have made important contributions to reform of the international monetary system. He said Russia is ready to cooperate closely with China within the frameworks of BRIC and G20 and continue to advance reform of the international monetary system and strengthening of international financial supervision.
The presidents agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the regional and international organizations including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRIC countries. They also exchanged views on the situation of the Korean Peninsula and the Iranian nuclear issue.
Wang Qishan, Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo attended the meeting.
