Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao attends the fifth East Asia Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam
The fifth East Asia Summit (EAS) opened in Hanoi, capital of Vietnam on the morning of October 30, 2010. Leaders of ASEAN member states and of China, Japan, the ROK, India, Australia and New Zealand attended the summit. Relevant regional and international issues, including the progress and direction of EAS cooperation, economic recovery and sustainable development, were discussed at the Summit.
On behalf of China, Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao attended the EAS.
Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of Vietnam which holds the rotation presidency of ASEAN, said in his opening address that the summit will review the EAS’ achievements over the past 5 years, plan the direction of cooperation in the next few years, strengthen the role of EAS in promoting dialogue and cooperation among the participating countries and improve the EAS’ organizational structure and operational mechanism. The invitation to the US and Russia to join the EAS will be considered and adopted by the Summit.
