On 28 September 2010, Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, sent a message of congratulation to Kim Jong Il on his reelection as the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. The following is the English translation of the message.

On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and in my own name, I would like to extend warm congratulations on the successful convening of the Conference of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) which reelected you as the General Secretary of the WPK and elected the country's highest leading body.

Over the years, under the leadership of the WPK headed by General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), with self-reliance and hard work, have scored huge achievements in the cause of building socialism of Korean style. In recent years, the people of the DPRK have made remarkable progress in developing the economy and improving their livelihood as they devote their efforts to the building of a great prosperous and powerful nation.

China and the DPRK enjoy a deep traditional friendship, geographical proximity and wide-ranging common interests. To consolidate and develop friendship and cooperation between the two countries is a firm policy of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government. No matter how the international situation evolves, we will always view, uphold and enhance China-DPRK relations from a strategic height and a long-term perspective. We are ready to continue to work with the DPRK side to lift our relations to new heights for the benefit of our two peoples and make greater contribution to lasting peace and common prosperity of the region.

I sincerely wish you, Comrade General Secretary, and the WPK continuous and even greater success in leading the DPRK people in building a great prosperous and powerful nation.
