Chinese, Cuban Leaders Exchange Congratulatory Messages on the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

On September 28, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao sent a congratulatory message to President of the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Raul Castro on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Cuban diplomatic ties.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao said in their message that Cuba is the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Over the past half a century, the two countries have supported each other, and their relations have been fully and constantly developed, they said. The two countries have conducted fruitful cooperation of mutual benefit in various sectors and coordinated closely in international and regional affairs. China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and brothers, and to further consolidate and develop the bilateral relations is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and peoples, and is beneficial to maintaining world peace and promoting common development, the Chinese leaders said. The Chinese government will cherish the long-standing Sino-Cuban friendly cooperation and continue to adhere to a policy of long-term friendship with Cuba, they said. China is willing to make joint efforts with Cuba and take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties to further consolidate and develop the traditional friendship as well as strengthen and expand mutually beneficial friendly cooperation for the benefit of the two countries and their people.

In his message sent to President Hu and Premier Wen on the same day, Raul Castro said that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, he would like to extend his warmest wishes to the Chinese leaders and people on behalf of the Cuban party, government and people. Cuba is willing to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Cuban diplomatic ties as a new starting point to further develop and intensify friendly cooperation with China, he said. Both China and Cuba adhere to socialist beliefs and pursue world peace. Sino-Cuban relations will continue to be a model of bilateral relations between different countries, the Cuban leader said.
