Wen Jiabao Meets with ROK National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyung-oh
2010/05/28

On May 28, 2010, visiting Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao met with ROK National Assembly Speaker Kim Hyung-oh in Seoul.

Wen said that China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) enjoy geographical proximity and cultural affinity with their economies being highly complementary to each other. Bilateral ties have been developing rapidly and achieved remarkable results since the establishment of diplomatic relations 18 years ago, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples. Wen praised the ROK for having achieved positive results in dealing with the global financial crisis, saying that these efforts helped promote the economic recovery of the region. The Chinese side was willing to work together with the ROK to further promote bilateral relations in the long run by deepening mutual trust and expanding win-win cooperation.

Wen noted the National People's Congress of China and the National Assembly of the ROK had established a sound mechanism for regular exchanges, adding that those exchanges, at various levels and in different forms, are very active between the two legislative bodies. He also expressed the hope that more exchanges and further cooperation between the two legislative bodies would make a bigger contribution to deepening mutual understanding and friendship, to cementing the foundation of public support for bilateral friendship and to pushing forward China-ROK relations.

Kim, for his part, said the National Assembly of the ROK firmly supported the development of the strategic cooperative partnership with China and was delighted with the fruitful cooperation between the two countries. China’s positive response to the global financial crisis and efforts to maintain stable and relatively rapid economic growth were very important to the growth of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and to the economic recovery and sustainable development in the region. The speaker also said he, as a member of the National Assembly of South Korea, could leave office soon, but he would never leave soon when it came to promoting friendship and cooperation between China and the ROK. He added he and other members of the National Assembly would continue to play a positive role in the further development of bilateral relations.
