Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Ukrainian Counterpart Grishchenko
2010/05/20

On May 19, 2010, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Konstantine Grishchenko in Kiev, capital of Ukraine.

Both sides agreed that relations between China and Ukraine have developed smoothly over the past 18 years since the two nations established diplomatic ties. Both sides have increased mutual political trust, supported each other on major issues of mutual concern, constantly expanded pragmatic cooptation on economy, trade, science, technology and aerospace and coordinated closely in international affairs. The two countries have also maintained dynamic people-to-people exchanges and contacts at local levels, continuously deepened mutual understanding between both peoples and cemented the social basis of bilateral ties.

Both sides agreed to implement in earnest the consensus on advancing China-Ukraine relations reached by Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych at the talks on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in April. They also pledged to seize opportunities, consolidate political trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges and push bilateral ties to a new level.

On May 18, Foreign Minister Yang arrived in Kiev, capital of Ukraine, for an official visit upon invitation.
