2010/05/18

On the morning of May 18, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Russian State Duma Chairman Boris Gryzlov at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu hailed the all-round, in-depth development of bilateral strategic cooperative partnership this year, saying that the two countries have maintained close exchanges between their leaders, which he said has injected strong impetus to the bilateral ties. Both sides have continuously deepened political trust, advanced pragmatic cooperation in all areas and pushed forward people-to-people and cultural exchanges and contacts at local levels, said Hu, pointing to the grand opening of the Year of Chinese Language in Russia. Both sides have also maintained even closer coordination in international and regional affairs, he added. Hu said the complicated and volatile international situation posed important opportunities and challenges for China and Russia. "It serves the strategic interests and common aspiration of both countries to elevate the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation," said Hu. "China would like to work with Russia to boost the sound and fast growth of such partnership," Hu said.

Hu said the friendly exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries have enriched the connotations of bilateral ties. He called for the legislative bodies of China and Russia to tap their advantages to the full and contribute to deepening bilateral cooperation in all areas.

Gryzlov warmly congratulated on the grand opening of the Shanghai World Expo and expressed sincere thanks to President Hu for attending the 65th anniversary celebration of victory in Russia's Great Patriotic War. He said China and Russia shared similar views on the history and Russia attached great importance to developing ties with China. Russian State Duma is ready to further enhance exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries, jointly push forward cooperation on politics, economy, trade and humanities and make greater contributions to Russia-China strategic cooperative partnership.

Li Jianguo, Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of NPC Standing Committee, and other officials attended the meeting.
