On March 11, 2010, Japanese Speaker of the House of Representatives Takahiro Yokomichi and President of the House of Councillors Satsuki Eda met in Tokyo respectively with the visiting chief Chinese member of the 21st Century Committee for China-Japan Friendship Tang Jiaxuan, also an honorary advisor to the China-Japan Friendship Association.
The Japanese side noted that with the joint efforts of both sides, Japan-China relations have entered a stage of rapid development. Japan-China relations are very important to the two countries and the whole world and the two sides should seize the momentum to open up a new era for bilateral strategic reciprocal relations. The upper and lower houses of the Japanese Diet will make positive efforts to this end.
Tang appreciated the important role the two parliament speakers have played over the years in actively promoting China-Japan parliamentary exchanges and the development of bilateral ties. Tang said the bilateral strategic reciprocal relationship faces important opportunities for all-round development and enhancement. He hoped that the two sides will strengthen dialogue and communication through parliamentary exchanges as a major platform and make new contributions to building political trust, improving sentiments between both peoples and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation.
On the same day, Tang also met with Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Ichiro Ozawa, President of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Sadakazu Tanigaki, as well as young Diet members from the DPJ, LDP and Japan's New Komeito Party, exchanging in-depth views with them on enhancing bilateral friendly relations.
