On May 27, 2013, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with Thomas E. Donilon, National Security Advisor to the U.S. President in Beijing.

Both sides exchanged in-depth views on the upcoming summit between President Xi Jinping and President Obama to be held in early June. The both sides agreed that China-U.S. relationship is now in a critical period of development between the past and the future. The upcoming summit between the heads of state of China and the U.S. will work positively for promoting the long-term sound and stable development of the China-U.S. relationship and will also have a far-reaching impact on pushing for peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and the world. The both sides will try every effort to make preparations to ensure the full success of the summit.

The both sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common interest.
