State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Russian Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy Co-chair China-Russia Local Leader Symposium

On May 14, 2013, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with Russian Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy Babic in Wuhan and co-chaired with Babic the Local Leader Symposium of the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River and the Federal District along the Volga River Bank.

Yang Jiechi said that the launching of the cooperation between the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Federal District along the Volga River Bank is both an important measure to put into practice the common view of the Chinese and Russian leaders on expanding local cooperation between the two sides and a pioneering undertaking to push forward cooperation between non-adjacent regions and inland areas of the two countries. It is hoped that both sides would take this as an opportunity, further strengthen communication and exchanges, actively explore mutually beneficial cooperative projects by taking into consideration of the economic traits and development demand of the two regions so as to better promote the social and economic development of the two regions.

Babic said that Russia is willing to join the efforts with China to actively promote cooperation in economy and trade, investment, science and technology, innovation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two regions and boost in-depth development of local cooperation between the two countries.

Top local government officials representing provinces and municipality of Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan and Wuhan of China and Perm Krai, Kirov State, Orenburg State, Udmurt Republic, Chuvash Republic and Saratov State of the Federal District along the Volga River Bank of Russia raised specific proposals on further expanding cooperation between the two regions and expressed that they would make the best of the cooperation platform between the two regions, give play to their respective advantages and actively conduct mutual beneficial cooperation.
