King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy of Spain Meet Respectively with Yang Jiechi

On September 14, 2017 local time, King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy of Spain met respectively with visiting State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Madrid.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership has been continuously deepened and bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields have entered into a “fast lane” of development under the joint efforts made by both sides in recent years. Both sides support each other on issues concerning the other’s core interests and major concerns, with political foundation of bilateral relations being firmer. 2018 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain. China is willing to, together with Spain, enhance exchanges at high level and all levels, deepen practical cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, agriculture, technology, science, infrastructure and tourism and foster bilateral goodwill public basis, so as to better benefit the two countries and their peoples. China is ready to adhere to the principle of wide consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, expand practical cooperation under the framework of the “Belt and Road”, forge new highlights of bilateral relations, expand people-to-people and cultural as well as regional exchanges, and strengthen coordination in major international and regional affairs with Spain. China supports the European integration process, hoping Spain to continue to play a positive role in the development of China-Europe relations.

Felipe VI and Mariano Rajoy stated that Spain treasures exchanges and cooperation with China. Both countries have always respected each other’s core interests and major concerns. Bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership continuously achieves new results. Spain stands ready to take the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in such areas including trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, culture and education with China, actively participate in the co-building of the “Belt and Road” initiative, and enhance coordination in multilateral affairs with China, in a bid to elevate bilateral relations to a new stage.

On September 15, Yang Jiechi also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Alfonso Dastis of Spain.
