Wang Yi: All Parties Should Honor Their Promises to Ensure the Implementation of the JCPOA

On December 5, 2016, after holding the first meeting of the annual meeting mechanism between Chinese and Iranian Foreign Ministers, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran jointly met the press in Beijing. Wang Yi noted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue, which has effectively resolved the Iranian nuclear crisis and safeguarded the international non-proliferation system as well as peace and stability in the Middle East, is a successful practice of resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means. The JCPOA is an international agreement jointly reached by the six countries and Iran, and has been officially approved by the UN Security Council. Ensuring a sustained, comprehensive and effective implementation of the JCPOA is the common responsibility and obligation of all parties and should not be affected by changes in respective internal situations. All parties should honor their promises, actively assume respective obligations, adhere to resolving differences through dialogues and consultations as well as always maintain the correct direction of constantly pushing forward the implementation of the agreement.

Wang Yi stressed that China is an active participant, promoter and contributor in the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue. China will continue to keep its promise and work closely with Iran and other parties to push for the sustained, comprehensive and effective implementation of the JCPOA.
