Wang Yi: China Argues for Firmly Safeguarding Sovereignty Rights and Interests over the South China Sea in 2016 on Just Grounds
2016/12/03

On December 3, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at the opening ceremony of the Symposium on International Developments and China's Diplomacy in 2016 that since the beginning of this year, the situation regarding the South China Sea issue has been very complicated and severe. In particular, this July, we resolutely fought back against the so-called award of the South China Sea arbitration case initiated by the former Philippine administration to safeguard China's sovereignty rights and interests, maintain national dignity as well as protect peace and stability in the South China Sea. Our legitimate position has been understood and supported by nearly 120 countries and more than 240 political parties of different countries. Meanwhile, we firmly occupy the commanding height of safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea, and take the initiative to work on ASEAN countries. China and ASEAN countries all agree to resolve specific disputes through dialogue and consultation among parties directly-concerned. This series of just actions focusing on the South China Sea arbitration case has brought justice to China as well as a new valuable environment for peace, stability and cooperation in the South China Sea and the Asia-Pacific region.
