Excellencies,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon! Welcome to the opening ceremony of the exhibition, “For a Better Life of the People”. The Chinese Mission and China’s State Council Information Office are glad to jointly hold this exhibition. It is a collection of 70 pictures and 15 short videos that speak to China’s achievements in improving people’s lives. I believe they provide a comprehensive guide to how far China has come in social and economic development.

In the words of H.E. President Xi Jinping, a better life for the people is the very goal we must strive for. Pursuing people-centered development and making development of the people, by the people, and for the people underpins the set of ideals followed by the Chinese government.

For the past 40 years since the start of reform and opening-up, particularly in the last five years, China has stayed committed to sustainable development. We are making every effort to improve education, deliver more reliable jobs and more rewarding incomes, weave a stronger social safety net, provide more advanced medical and health care, improve housing conditions and the natural environment, and offer a more enriched cultural life.

China is also committed to global governance and is working for a just and equitable international human rights system. China is a signatory to 26 international human rights instruments. We are engaged in human rights dialogue with 40 countries. We have helped more than 120 developing countries implement the MDGs.

Next month, the Communist Party of China will convene its 19th National Congress. Looking ahead, we will continue to be driven by the people’s longing for a better life and work with all countries to promote the international human rights cause. We are ready to share China’s wisdom and solutions and work for a community of shared future for human beings.

Thank you for coming and enjoy the exhibition.
