Ambassador Liu Zhenmin Met with the Head of the FCTC Secretariat

On August 22, 2012, Ambassador Liu Zhenmin, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Dr. Haik Nikogosian, the Head of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Secretariat.

Dr. Nikogosian appreciated China’s support to Convention Secretariat and acknowledged the progress achieved and contribution made by China in the tobacco control work. He expressed the willing to deepen the cooperation between FCTC Secretariat and China, to collectively make more contribution to the global tobacco control and public health development.

Ambassador Liu said FCTC is the first international treaty in the field of public health and has played a great role in promoting global tobacco control cooperation. China attached great importance to the tobacco control work, and will closely work with all parties, to achieve new progress in global tobacco control.

Ambassador Liu and Dr. Nikogosian also exchanged views on the 5th Conference of the Parties of FCTC.
