Ambassador LI Baodong, together with Chinese Ambassador to WTO Mr. SUN Zhenyu and Ambassador for Disarmament Affairs Mr. WANG Qun, held a grand reception on 30 of September to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding the People's Republic of China. More than 400 distinguished guests including ambassadors and heads of UN agencies and international organizations attended the reception.

                     

In his speech delivered at the reception, Ambassador LI said that this year marked the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over the past 60 years, great changes had been taking place in China. China had succeeded in obtaining a sustained and rapid economic growth, marked increase in the overall national strength, steady improvement of the living standards and constant betterment of its international standing. China had turned from an impoverished country into the world's third-largest economy. Meanwhile, China remained the biggest developing country in the world. China still lagged behind more than 100 countries in terms of per capita GDP. The task of reform and development was arduous and the road ahead was long.

                    

Ambassador LI said that the Chinese diplomacy had withstood the severe tests of fluctuating international situation and achieved world-acclaimed results over the past 60 years. China had participated actively in the activities of various fields of multilateral diplomacy. China had taken an active part in the international efforts to address global issues and worked vigorously for the proper settlement of hotspot issues, making positive contributions to the cause of promoting peace and development in the world. No matter how the international situation may evolve, China would always stand for peace, development and cooperation, pursue an independent foreign policy of peace, and stick to its diplomatic vision of upholding world peace and promoting common development. China would be committed to following the path of peaceful development, pursuing a win-win strategy of opening-up, developing friendly relations and cooperation with all countries and working closely with other countries to build a harmonious world with enduring peace and common prosperity.

                          

The guests presented warm congratulations on the 60th anniversary of the founding the People's Republic of China. They expressed their appreciation of China's achievements made in the past 60 years and its active and constructive role in the international affairs.
