Ambassador Wu Hailong Marks Assumption of Duties

Ambassador WU Hailong, the recently arrived new Permanent Representative of China in Geneva, marked the assumption of his duties at a reception held in the Chinese Mission on April 3rd. More than 230 guests including ambassadors and senior diplomats, heads of WHO and other international organizations, local dignitaries and Chinese nationals in Geneva attended the event and offered congratulations and good wishes to him.

Speaking to the well-wishing crowd, Ambassador Wu said that he had been working in the field of multilateral diplomacy for over 30 years, and increasingly realized how busy multilateral diplomacy has become today, with expanding agenda and increasing challenges to tackle. While multilateralism and globalization gaining new momentum, the world has become a "community of common destiny", in which all countries share inter-linked interests and future. Only through enhanced cooperation and coordinated action, can we address all global challenges to ensure peace, stability and prosperity of the world.

Ambassador Wu pointed that China has been firmly supporting the central role of the United Nations in maintaining peace and security, promoting development and safeguarding human rights. China will continue to participate in UN activities in various fields in greater scope and depth and play a positive and constructive role in multilateral affairs.

Ambassador Wu highlighted Geneva's unique place as a hub for multilateral diplomacy. Fully aware of his great responsibilities as China' new Permanent Representative, he look forward to working and cooperating with colleagues and friends from UN and other international organizations, as well as permanent missions based in Geneva.

The guests expressed their best wishes to Ambassador Wu and spoke highly of China's positive role in international affairs and international organizations, and hoped to strengthen communication and cooperation with China.

Ambassador Wu arrived in Geneva on 22 February and presented his credentials to the United Nations Office at Geneva on 25 February.
