Remarks by Chinese Mission spokesperson Chen Yaou on the Recent Situation in Hong Kong

The Chinese Government condemns in the strongest term the escalation of violent illegal activities by rioters in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The incessant large-scale violent acts have grossly trampled the rule of law and the public social order in Hong Kong, severely disturbed its prosperity and stability, and seriously challenged the "one country, two systems" bottom line, pushing Hong Kong into an extremely dangerous situation.

It is the most pressing task for Hong Kong to bring violence and chaos to an end and restore order. The Central Government of China will continue to firmly support the Chief Executive in leading the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government to govern in accordance with the law, firmly support the Hong Kong police in strictly enforcing the law, and firmly support the Hong Kong judicial bodies in severely punishing the violent criminals in accordance with the law.

Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs that brook no interference by any foreign government, organization or individual. The Chinese Government has unswerving determination to protect national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and oppose any external force in interfering in Hong Kong's affairs.
