Chinese Mission Held Briefing on the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China

On 2 November, Ambassador Ma Zhaoxu held a briefing on the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China for heads of international organizations and permanent missions in Geneva. It was attended by Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr. Michel Sidibé, UNAIDS Executive Director, Mr. Francis Gurry, Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Mr. Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organization, Mr. Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and senior representatives of the International Telecommunication Union, the World Meteorological Organization, the International Trade Center, the International Organization for Migration, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UN Conference on Trade and Development. They were also joined by the ambassadors of Russia, Brazil, India, Pakistan, Greece, Cuba, Venezuela, and the Laos.

Ambassador Ma briefed the guests on the success of the Congress and the essence of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Underlying the great historic significance and relevance to reality of General Secretary Xi’s report, he said it made an accurate assessment of the international situation and China’s historical juncture, rightfully concluded that socialism with Chinese characteristics had entered a new era, explained in-depth the historic mission of the Communist Party of China, set out new goals in fully building a modern socialist country, and answered the profound question of what kind of socialism with Chinese characteristics the new era requires us to uphold and develop, and how to go about doing it. Ambassador Ma highlighted the overarching goal of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era: building a community with a shared future for mankind and forging a new form of international relations. China will continue its efforts to safeguard world peace, contribute to global development, and uphold international order. China will actively develop global partnerships, adhere to the fundamental national policy of opening up, and promote international cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative. China will play its part as a major and responsible country, actively participate in the reform and development of global governance, and make greater contributions to mankind.

The heads of international organizations and ambassadors warmly congratulated on the success of the Congress, commended Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era for its great significance for and far-reaching impact on China and the world, and hailed China’s historic achievements and transformation over the past five years. They welcomed a new era whereby China plays a greater role on the international stage and expressed their readiness to continue the strong cooperation with China on the Belt and Road Initiative and in many other areas to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.
