Statement by H. E. Ambassador LIU Zhenmin on the Review of India at the 13th Session of the UPR Working Group
2012/05/24

Madam President,
The Chinese delegation warmly welcomes the Indian delegation, and appreciates India's constructive engagement in the UPR process.
China commends India for its effective implementation of the accepted recommendations from the First Cycle of the UPR and for its efforts to safeguard the rights and interests of women and children, to provide free and compulsory education for children and to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate. In areas such as protecting the right to work and the rights of the elderly, India has also taken a series of positive measures. China welcomes the progress achieved by  India.
China understands that as a populous developing country, India is still faced with many challenges in promoting and protecting human rights. We are convinced that the government of India will overcome these difficulties so as to better promote and protect human rights and achieve sustainable economic and social development.
    Thank you, Madam President.
