Joint Statement at the Interactive Dialogue on HC Annual Report at the 47th Session of the Human Rights Council
2021-06-22 15:00

Madam President,

I have the honor to speak on behalf of a group of countries. Peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom represent the shared values of humanity and common goals that all countries strive for. Diversity is what defines our world and diversified forms of democracy are practiced in various countries. The key judgment is whether it fits the particular situation in a country, whether it represents the will of its people, and whether it safeguards people's interests and enjoys their support, as true democracy brings about political stability, social progress and well-being for the people, and contributes to the promotion and protection of human rights.

To impose, under the pretext of democracy, one's own social system and model of democracy on others, interfere in other countries' internal affairs and impose unilateral coercive measures are the very opposite of democracy and humanity as they violate the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Multi-polarization and democratic international relations are irresistible trend of the times. States should practice true multilateralism, enhance consultations and cooperation, advance peace and development, and promote and protect human rights, rather than drawing lines between ideologies or creating division and confrontation. We call on all countries to work together to tackle global challenges and create a better future for human beings.

Thank you, Madam President.
