(September 24, 2021)

Madam President,

Today, a handful of countries once again spread disinformation and made unfounded accusations against China out of political purposes. China firmly opposes and categorically rejects their accusations.

Instead of genuinely caring about human rights, these countries only attempt to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, undermine their stability and retard their development under the pretext of human rights. This, in essence, is unilateralism and power politics at play. If these countries truly care about human rights, they should take seriously their own human rights problems and address, among other things, racial discrimination, human trafficking, forced labor, and violations of the rights of refugees, migrants and indigenous people; they should halt illegal military intervention and occupation and lift illegal unilateral coercive measures without hesitation so as to avoid creating further disasters for the people of other countries and impeding others’ development.

Adhering to people-centered development, China has succeeded inbuildinga moderately prosperous society in an all-round way,and putting an end forever to absolute poverty. China’s human rights achievements are there for everyone to see. Chinese people’s sense of benefit, happiness and security continues to grow.Justice is in the heart of the people. Today, 65 countries joined the statement in support of China on Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet related issues, and many extended their support through national statements or joint letter. This fully demonstrates the will of the international community.

Under current circumstances, there is an urgent need for all countries to adhere to true multilateralism and strengthen cooperation to respond together to challenges. The countries in question are well advised to discard monopoly of answers and bullying, respect the development path independently chosen by the people of other countries and respect their history, culture and political system. They should conduct dialogue with other countries on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and enhance exchange and mutual learning with a view to creating a brighter future.

If these countries continue to ignore the pursuit of win-win cooperation and equity and justice of the people around the world, if they continue to obsess themselves in imposing their values and systems on others and interfering in their internal affairs, or continue to create division and confrontation in the world to serve their selfish interests, they are bound to meet staunch opposition from all people of justice and their attempt is doomed to failure.

Thank you, Madam President.
