Excellencies,

Dear colleagues,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the reception. The coming July 1st marks the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Over the past 100 years, the CPC has been steadfastly pursuing its purpose and mission, that is, the happiness of the people and rejuvenation of the nation. With the CPC uniting the people and leading them in arduous endeavors, the Chinese nation was able to take a historic leap forward from standing up to getting better off to becoming strong, creating a miracle in the history of human development.

Under the CPC's leadership, China achieved national independence and realized the broadest possible people's democracy. The Chinese people became the real master of their country, their society and their own life. China's economic, social, scientific and technological development is profound. China realized in just a few decades what took developed countries several centuries in industrialization, and emerged as the second largest economy in the world. People no longer suffer from lack of food and clothing, instead they enjoy moderate prosperity in every respect. Absolute poverty has been eradicated, and China is now home to the largest number of middle-income population. Maintaining long-term social harmony and stability, China is now widely acknowledged as one of the safest countries in the world.

The CPC comes from the people. Its ultimate purpose is to serve the people. As such, the CPC is dedicated to advancing the interests of the people. It has been strengthening human rights protection in a comprehensive and coordinated manner, promoting all-round development for every individual. China has put in place the world's largest system in education, health and social security, and is making steady progress in ensuring people's access to education, employment, medical services, elderly care, housing, and assistance for the vulnerable groups. Faced with the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, the CPC has always put people-the life, safety and health of every citizen-above anything else. Having effectively brought COVID-19 under control at home, China has also actively participated in international anti-pandemic cooperation, providing assistance for other countries in need.

The CPC not only pursues happiness for the Chinese people, but also works for the progress of human development. Committed to the path of peaceful development, China holds high the banner of peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful seat of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations. Consistent in practicing true multilateralism, China is firmly committed to safeguarding the UN-centered international system and the international order on the basis of international law. China will remain a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of international order.

The CPC is right in its prime as it celebrates its centenary. Building on the success of bringing about overall moderate prosperity in the country, the CPC has again embarked on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects. The CPC will continue to uphold people-centered development philosophy, create greater wonder by the people, and deliver a better and happier life for the people. The CPC will continue to promote values shared by all, namely peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, and will stay committed to reforms in and development of the global governance system, and to building a community with a shared future for mankind, so as to make fresh and greater contribution to humanity.

The Permanent Mission of China appreciates the long-term support and cooperation rendered by friendly countries in multilateral affairs here in Geneva. We stand ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with our friends, uphold shared interests, and contribute to sound development of multilateral affairs in Geneva.

Have a nice evening.

Thank you!
